Most of your learning will come all on it's own as you work on your product and get hands on experience at the fair!

If you are looking for some reading material or additional resources to help you through the process and want to learn anything specific, there are lots of options:

  • Do some online research

  • Visit a library and take out some books on the topic

  • Ask your parents if they know an entrepreneur who can meet with you and answer your questions

  • Take online course for kids

Please review the Fair FAQ page!

There is a lot to know and it's important that you have an overview from the start so that you know what to expect before moving forward in the process!

Practice Your Sales Pitch

What's a sales pitch? It's a short introduction to yourself and your product/service that helps you convince a potential customer to purchase your product/service.

In your pitch, you’ll need to introduce yourself, identify what your business does, identify how you are different than your competitors and then ask for the sale!

Plan Your Booth

Get Ready for Some Competition!

Do Your Best!

This fair is all about having fun while trying something new and seeing what you are truly capable of! Take this opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and to challenge yourself. Let yourself make mistakes - mistakes are one of the best ways to learn!

The goal of the fair is that you do as much as you can without the help of an adult. Although we encourage that you ask your parents for support when you need it, you are the CEO of your business and you should be the one making all of the big decisions, coming up with the ideas and doing the work yourself.

All booths will be automatically entered in the business competition, and booths will be judged by fellow entrepreneurs on a variety of criteria, including most original business idea, highest business potential, and best presentation/creativity.

Cash prizes per category (to be split among the business owners if there are multiple owners of a single business) will be presented at the conclusion of the fair.

Judges will walk around the event to judge the various businesses on the following categories

  • Most Original Business Idea

  • Best Presentation/Booth Design

There will be a winner in each category.

Perfect Your Sales Pitch

Every entrepreneur needs to be able to pitch their product/service to potential customers or investors. For our fair, you'll need to tell the people that come to your booth about your product... read below to find out how to write a simple sales pitch specifically designed for our fair.

A pitch is a short introduction to you and your company. The goal of the pitch is to entice your potential customer to buy your product/service - so you’ll need to introduce yourself, describe what your business does, identify how you are different than your competitors and then ask for the sale! For our purposes, your pitch should be up to 30 seconds long.

*Please note that this is a short and modified version of a standard product/service pitch, specifically suited for a market like ours.

  1. Introduction

    1. Introduce yourself and your business.

    2. Ex: Hi, I'm Rachel! I’m the President of Bath Bomb Inc..

  2. Elevator Pitch

    1. Explain what your company does.

    2. Ex: I sell handmade, all natural, bath bombs in three different scents - lavender, mint and citrus. Taking a bath with these bath bombs will leave you relaxed and happy!

  3. Competition & Differentiation

    1. Explain how you are different from your competitors and what makes your business special. Why should someone buy from you?

    2. Ex: My bath bombs are special because I make them myself and they are made with completely safe and natural ingredients!

  4. Closing

    1. Ask for the sale!

    2. Ex: Can I help you pick out three bath bombs? Today, I am selling 3 for $10!

Full Pitch Example:

Hi, I'm Rachel! I’m the President of Bath Bomb Inc.. I sell handmade, all natural, bath bombs in three different scents - lavender, mint and citrus. Taking a bath with these bath bombs will leave you relaxed and happy! My bath bombs are special because I make them myself and they are made with completely safe and natural ingredients! Can I help you pick out three bath bombs? Today, I am selling 3 for $10!

Marketing: Getting the Word Out

It is SO important to consider your marketing strategy right from the start! Marketing yourself takes time and effort, but it has a huge payoff - more customers at the fair and more profit for your business!

It is the responsibility of kidpreneurs and parents to ensure that our event is filled with customers! This year, we are asking all of our kidpreneur businesses to bring a minimum of 10 people out to the fair (ideally more!). This means that at least 10 people are at the fair because they heard about it from you or from one of your marketing strategies. The task may be even more challenging for those who don't live near the venue, but the requirement still applies!

Don't stop at 10! It's just a minimum requirement! Get as many people out to the fair as you can and you'll see your profits soar!

Think about this: If you sell each of your products for $5 and you bring in 10 customers, that's $50 for you! Cool!

There are many ways that you can get the word out to family, friends, neighbors, community centers, schools, places of worship and more!

Below are some ideas to get you started, but feel free to be creative and come up with your own ideas! We have also linked all of our posters and social media images that you can download and share, along with any that you create specifically for your business.

  • Posters: Get posters up in your community centers, schools, places of worship, parent's workplaces, neighbors' homes, local small businesses and anywhere else you can think of! Use our posters that you can download on this page and/or your own.

  • Social Media: Ask your parents, friends, aunts, uncles etc. to share information about your business as well as the fair in general on their social media sites and to encourage people to come out and support you! Make sure to follow all our social sites and share, share, share!

  • Emails: Ask your parents, friends, aunts, uncles etc. to send out emails about the fair ask them to encourage people to come out and support you! Use your own email if you have one as well! Emails should link the recipient to the Facebook event page so they learn more.

  • Word of Mouth: Tell EVERYONE that you are a kidpreneur and that you are selling your product/service at the fair! Talk about it, tell them to spread the word, let you school know, your teachers, your friends! The more you talk about it and ask people to come out, the more others will get excited and the more customers you will end up with!

  • Photos/Videos: Get your headshots and product photos in to us before the deadline so we can help advertise your business! Use the same photos in your advertising efforts too! Consider creating a video about your business and share your video far and wide. We'll share it through our channels too if you send it our way!
